Having spent five minutes chatting to a neighbour who stopped in the lane outside one of our fields, as soon as she drove off I strode across the lane and started to climb over the gate. I couldn’t help laughing at myself today. The Group is holding a Shetland Pony Festive Fun Day at Cholwell again on Saturday 17 th December, with pony- based party games and novelty classes. The show was blessed with perfect weather which allowed plenty of chat out in the lorry park and a great atmosphere prevailed. Not only did we receive rosettes, but there were little chocolate bars too - yum! She really did look beautiful, winning the prettiest mare/filly class and several others. She is a slightly nervous pony which made me a bit apprehensive about how she would cope, but I needn’t have worried - she was brilliant. She’s having a rest from motherhood this year so I looked forward to taking her out again. We showed her as a two year old, but most of the time since then she has been having babies. She hasn’t been into a show ring for ten years. I enjoy these relaxed events and wanted to take a pony that we don’t normally show, so dun and white Marina was my choice. Probably the easiest was for the longest mane as the tape measure made the decision there! The classes were varied and well- filled and must have been so hard to judge. I don’t think there was a single ear back or glare amongst the equines, and not a tear or grumpy face amongst the humans! ![]() There were loads of children, many of them very young, and the ponies looked after them perfectly. It attracted lots of new faces - both ponies and people - and emphasised what great little ponies these are. The SW Shetland Group’s recent Fun Show was a huge success.
